Summer Camps

SaddleBack Equestrian’s summer camps are for ages 7– young adult with emphasis placed on safe horsemanship and sportsmanship. Campers will ride daily on one of SaddleBack’s safe and experienced school horses. They will also get a realistic introduction into the daily routine of caring for horses and will most likely get to see a vet and farrier at work on SaddleBack’s horses. Camps are taught by Head Trainer, Melissa Predl, and your child will receive excellent one-on-one instruction in English horsemanship.

  • Beginner Camps – For those just starting out with horses. Campers will learn to groom and tack up the horse, and basic horse care. Campers will learn to walk, trot and be introduced to cantering. Students attending this camp should have not taken any (or very few) lessons.
  • Intermediate Camps – For those that have had experience in any riding program. If you are already jumping, this is the camp for you. Fence heights from 18” to 2’3”. Campers will learn more advanced horse care and grooming for the show horse. They will learn what judges look for on the flat and over fences, and how to prepare themselves and their horse for a show.
  • Advanced Camps – For those jumping 2’6 or higher. Fence heights 2’6” (or higher if camper riding own horse). Campers will learn what judges look for in hunter and equitation classes and how to judge movement and style of the show hunter. More advanced flatwork will be introduced along with training equipment, course design, and discussion of USEF rules.

SaddleBack’s camp program is designed to take campers from beginner to the show ring if desired. New riders are encouraged to register for more than one camp, as this reinforces the basics needed for designing a personal riding program in the future. Be sure to register early to ensure your preferred week as camps are limited to 8 campers per week and fill quickly. Call SaddleBack today for more information.
